by Erika Joy Zoleta |  March 14, 2024

In the worldwide celebration of the International Day of Mathematics, the Math and Physics Department hosted a Pi Day celebration on March 14, 2024, at the COE Breezeway.

During the event, Mrs. Precious Tayaben, a faculty member of the Math and Physics Department, challenged the audience to memorize the value of Pi. Solace Hamir, a Math Department student, and Erika Joy Zoleta, an English Department student, accepted the challenge and memorized the most Pi numbers. As a reward, they were given a Pi pin.

Dr. Edwin Balila, the College of Science and Technology dean, delivered his message about the object lesson on the lever. The central theme of his message was how it can influence people. One of the lever’s components is the fulcrum located between two loads. “You have to find a point where you can find balance,” Dr. Ballila mentions, quoting from Archimedes’ words, “Give me a place to stand, and I will move the earth.” He concluded his message by pondering, “Are we bringing good influence to those around us, or are we bringing bad influence to them?”

Immersing in logical abilities, games and activities such as Parabolic Target, Pi Roulette, Cutting Pie, Tapatan, and Artificial Intelligence opened at the College of Theology Level 1 Hallway.
