The Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP) held its 110 Trees Legacy Dedication Ceremony and Planting Activity, themed “Planting Today, Growing a Legacy for Tomorrow,” at the University campsite hills on October 9, 2026.
The activity gathered University administrators, student leaders from elementary to college, faculty, staff, and barangay representatives to affirm their commitment to environmental stewardship.
Engr. Erna Panis, head of the Silang Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, served as guest speaker. She urged the University to join this initiative beyond the launch. She said planting is simple; the main challenge is ensuring crop survival amid harsh terrain and free-range animals that damage the plants.
“As AUP approaches its 110th founding anniversary in February 2027, the University celebrates God’s faithfulness through the 110 Trees Legacy Project, with each tree symbolizing a year of its journey of faith, learning, and service,” Dr. Maureen Mariñas, Institutional Quality Assurance director, presented the initiative’s background.
Rooted in the biblical principle of stewardship (Genesis 2:15), representatives from AUP Academy, AUP Elementary, college students, youth organizations, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community led the declaration of commitment to environmental protection.
Ornamental and native trees planted include fire trees, banaba, and butterfly trees, while the fruit-bearing trees include avocados, durians, and rambutans.
Dr. Mariñas emphasized that this is more than a commemorative activity. The project represents a commitment “to nurture what is planted today for the benefit of future generations—a living expression of gratitude, responsibility, and a legacy that continues to grow.”
