Sola Gratia Chorale Wins Grand Prize in an International Choral Competition
The Sola Gratia Chorale won the grand prize at the 5th Vox Lucensis Concorso Corale Internazionale held in Lucca, Italy from March 28 to April 1, 2026. Under the leadership of Cyril Punay, an AUP alumnus, the chorale also earned the Gold IV Award in the sacred category and the Gold VIII Award as category winner in the youth mixed choir division.
“We receive this not only as a measure of distinction, but as a testament to God’s goodness and faithfulness, and as a reminder to offer our best with sincerity,” Punay shared in his socials. He acknowledged that this journey was of learning, growth, and grace. “I am reminded that excellence is not only defined by rankings, but by the courage to grow, to listen, and to give our very best in every moment.”
He also reflected that one of the most meaningful parts of this experience was meeting fellow choristers from different parts of the world and having the privilege of engaging with international juries.
“We honor God to be in this excellence,” Mary Manalili, one of the Chorale members, reflected that no matter where the Chorale went, who they met, “music is our tool to reach.”
Their participation in the international competition demonstrated the strength of Adventist musical choirs in forming students who pursue excellence while upholding their devotion to God.
In her congratulatory message, Dr. Arceli Rosario, AUP president, expressed gratitude for the Chorale’s accomplishment and emphasized the impact of their ministry through music. “While we celebrate this victory, we recognize that it is the fruit of your earnest pursuit of excellence before the Lord. More than awards, you embody a ministry of music that lifts hearts to worship.”
“Remain humble. Remain faithful. Let your gift continue to be a sacred trust, and may your lives always sing of God’s glory wherever you go,” Dr. Rosario expressed.
The grand prize victory in Italy stood as a meaningful testimony of what AUP values in its students and representatives: academic excellence in preparation, Christlike character in conduct, and exemplary service in mission.
