Seventh-day Adventist work began in the Philippines at the arrival of a colporteur who sold religious books to Americas in Manila. The following year, a missionary couple arrived with the purpose of raising an American congregation, which in turn was expected to reach the Filipinos. After two years of working, however, no American converts remained in the Philippines. The missionaries changed their strategy and began to reach out to Filipinos instead.<\/p>\n

Pastor and Mrs. L. V. Finster <\/b>arrived and immediately learned Tagalog. They prepared a tract for Filipinos in their own language rather than in English or Spanish.<\/p>\n

Finster started to hold meetings with high school students, Bibiano Panis and Leon Roda. After nine months of Bible study, the first group of twelve Filipino converts to Adventism were baptized while six were accepted into church membership through profession by faith.<\/p>\n
