AOLIS / Computer Science Seminars

Hello friends,

We're organizing a Linux Seminar (3 hours) and a Web Development
Seminar (using Joomla and Drupal CMSes) (3 hours) on Dec 02, 2007 here
at Adventist University of the Philippines.  I want to extend the
invitation to you and all the people in your school who might be
interested in these topics.

The intended audience are CS/IT/IM/Comptech/and-the-like students & teachers
and the discussion will be quite in depth of the subjects towards the end of
the sessions.

The tentative discussion plan will be as follows:

Web Development Seminar (9-12)

-networking review (15 mins) (tcp/ip, dns, http, https, js, html, ca,
ssl, ftp etc...) by Windell Shem G. Pasamba (CS Dept Head) / Winelfred

-Drupal (1 hour) (installation, administration, discussion of a set of
most interesting modules) by Windell Shem G. Pasamba (CS Dept Head) /

-Joomla (1.75 hours) (installation, administration, themes,
interesting modules, intro to writing joomla modules) by Marc Henry S.
Galang (Joomla Freelancer, www.galangph.com) / Israel D. Canasa (Joomla

-Intro to Linux (30 mins) by Winelfred G. Pasamba

-Linux Server Administration (2.5 hours)

 -iptables (a little bit of, firewalling, redirection)
 -samba file server
 -apache web server

 -backups (backuppc)

 -security (bugtraq, sec, sudo, minimized services)
-Fun Things
 -gnokii (GNU Nokia Interface)
 -ivrs.pm (Perl Modue for Interactive Voice Response System)
 -Linux Terminal Server Project
-Programming in Linux
 -C/C++

-Databases Administration (a little bit of)

Costs
 -Php 175 for each 3 hour session (payments to AUP Cashier should be
made before proceeding to the seminar)
 -Certificates of Attendance will given
 -Lunch will be at the AUP Cafeteria (rice 8, entree 22, vegetables
18, juice 12, etc...)
 -Linux CDs/DVDs will be sold by the Linkers Club at 50 / disk.
(CentOS latest stable, Ubuntu latest release)
 -Cash Receipt serves as your ticket for entrance and claiming of certificate
